Melissa and Mary are rapidly establishing themselves as an exciting and innovative flute and piano duo, embracing both contemporary music and established repertoire. Since their London Southbank debut in January 2006 as Park Lane Group Young Artists, they have enjoyed considerable career success. They made their BBC Proms and BBC Radio 3 debut in August 2006 performing the UK premiere of Jonathan Harvey’s Run Before Lightning in Royal Albert Hall to critical acclaim. Recent highlights include an eight concert Australian Tour including performances at the 2007 Sydney Flute Festival, and a recital in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. They have also recently been awarded a grant from the Australia Council to commission a new 15 minute flute and piano work from the Australian composer Mark Issacs.
Competition successes for the Duo include winning the prestigious Royal Academy of Music 2006 Club Prize, Third Prize in the Bromsgrove 2006 International Young Artists Platform and reaching the Semi-finals of the 2006 Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Sanguinetto, Italy.
Australian born, Melissa and Mary formed their duo when they met as fellow students at the Royal Academy of Music in London. During this time, they won numerous awards including the J.J. Brough
